This seminar will examine the current interplay between EU free movement rights and United Kingdom immigration law. This topic is of interest because of recent difficulties with EU family rights in the United Kingdom, including delays in compliance with the Metock ruling, a narrow interpretation of Directive 2004/ 38 in relation to permanent residence, and reluctance to make requests for preliminary rulings in the field. The aim of the seminar is to provoke a discussion of mismatches between EU law and UK law, including possible responses to those.
The seminar will be of interest to academics, lawyers and policy-makers interested in EU law or UK immigration law.
