Description

The Use of an Illusion? Childhood Cinephilia, Object Relations and Videographic Film Studies

Christian Keathley (Middlebury College), Catherine Grant (the University of Sussex) chaired by Amber Jacobs (Birkbeck College)

Christian Keathley’s presentation will focus on film studies video essays as a new mode of cinephiliac critical writing. He will place such videos in the theoretical context of D.W. Winnicott’s ideas about transitional phenomena and playing. Catherine Grant will also explore videographic object relations approaches to childhood cinephilia. Like Keathley, she will present some of her recent video ‘remixes’ to examine how these emerging, creative forms of film studies may articulate uncanny forms of ‘déjà-viewing’.

Attendance free.  All welcome.  If you would like to attend please email: IESEvents@sas.ac.uk
